With so many free apps to choose from it is difficult deciding which ones to download. Apps have advanced so much that now you can test your mobile internet speed connection, or even locate your nearest Wi-Fi hotspot. All this from free apps!

Below are 5 Apple iPhone free apps that are related to Wi-Fi and 3G, in no particular order.

The iDataSpy iPhone App

The iDataSpy iPhone App

Firstly we have the iDataSpy iPhone app. The iDataSpy App lets you track your 3G, GPRS and Wi-Fi data. This is a useful app to have as you are able to see how much data you have used, and on what you have used it on. It even displays all the data in a graph, so you can easily identify where the most amount of data is being used.

Now we have the Wi-Fi Finder. This is a really useful app, if you want to find the closest Wi-Fi hotspot to you. This app searches 55,000 locations in 144 countries around the world. This app helps you further by directing you to the closest Wi-Fi hotspot by giving you directions.

The Onavo app is great for those of you who don’t have loads of data to spare. It works by using the data you receive on your handset, whilst you are surfing the next, and then decreased the size of the data, using its compression service. This means that you use less data and end up paying less, especially if you’re one of those people who always goes over their data limits.

The Speedtest.net App

The Speedtest.net App

Now we have Speedtest.net, which is an iPhone app developed to measure your mobile internet connection speed, using either your Wi-Fi or 3G connection. This app is quite clever as it measures the internet connection upload, the download and the Ping speeds. Once it has completed all this, it will then display the results on your screen.  It even allows you to access previous test results, so you can tell which connection type gets the fastest connection.

Finally we have the 3G Mapper Lite, this app allows you to create a 3G coverage map of your own. The way it works, is that the app adds dots onto a map, showing you areas where you will have data signal and areas where you won’t. This is ideal for people who need to check before hand, if the area they wish to visit will allow them to use their mobile internet.
